Whole lot ‘o’ cardio this morning!
Day 9 – Pure cardio. We know the drill, this exercise is all about getting your heart rate up and not letting it drop. As you can see, my overall hr is much lower than the last time I did pure cardio. I was really trying to push it today, and both my average and my peak HR are much lower than a week ago. I’ll take this as a sign that my body is starting to know what to do when I start hammering away like this for 30-40 minutes. It’s also telling to compare the end of the workouts. I think I must have been slacking pretty hard on day 5 right before the finish. It also looks like my recovery is ever so slightly better. Once I have a few weeks of this we can find a real trend. These two could be used to argue that I am both less fit and more fit at the same time!
My struggles for today were that my arms are never up for that many pushups. I’m all noodly well before we get to the third set. I also noticed today that there is a lot of room for pushing it / killing myself in the switch kicks / football stance exercises. A lot of those low squats can really really burn if you get in at a proper 90 degree angle. I’m pretty strong in my quads and butt, but those can still take it out of me. I think that is an area where I can dial up the intensity for the rest of the workout. It’s always a balancing act because I don’t want to completely burn out, and I don’t want to finish with energy to spare either.
